Organizations responding to increasing threats

In recent years, business continuity and resilience have been increasingly on boardroom agendas. This is not surprising given the increase in incidents affecting organizations: 85% of all global organizations experienced at least one supply chain disruption in the past year[1] and nearly 70% of organizations have witnessed an increase in severe weather events[2]. This is as well as the impacts of COVID-19, civil conflicts, and new regulations around resilience.

This has led to a sharp increase in the number of organizations preparing their staff more effectively through corporate training. This has been most evident in more heavily regulated sectors such as financial services, energy, and public services. Some organizations, including many of the larger financial institutions, are using training creatively to ensure everyone in the organization has the right skills. With the “bottom-up” approach being considered good practice in resilience, organizations are seeking basic awareness training for all staff via eLearning and, at the other end of the scale, are ensuring they have enough certified business continuity professionals across the business via the CBCI Certification Course. This approach was highlighted in the 2022 BCI Horizon Scan report where 74% of respondents stated that having certified members within their business continuity team had a direct, positive effect on their organization’s resilience.

After purchasing a corporate eLearning license for the BCI Introduction to Business Continuity Course a member from a leading energy company commented that “business continuity corporate training supported us in enhancing understanding of the risk management from a different perspective.’’

Some of the key advantages of corporate training are that it can be tailored to an organization's needs. This can include a date and time to fit in with schedules and a format (online/classroom) to suit organizational preferences and geographical spread of staff. Furthermore, instructors provide examples, case studies, and ideas suited to an organization or industry sector, which help to make the training more relevant to staff as well as increase engagement and effectiveness.

The BCI, along with its global network of Licensed Training Partners, provides a variety of courses and solutions to meet the needs of any organization (see below). The BCI also have a variety of other Specialism Courses  available.
