The BCI is pleased to welcome Debarati Rana, Danielle Ryan (Gonsalvez), and Rebecca Skinner to the Women in Resilience Special Interest Group committee.

These three practitioners bring a wealth of experience, enthusiasm, and specialist skills to the group. Debarati is an experienced ITeS resilience professional, Danielle is a business resilience professional currently working in the Australian public sector, for a federal government agency, and Rebecca provides the business continuity programmes for a not-for-profit organization.

Motivations: Why join the committee?

The new committee members were all inspired by the WiR SIG’s mission to empower and connect women in resilience.

"I was inspired to join this committee after attending a WiR SIG session focused on empowering women in resilience," said Danielle. "It made me reflect on my own journey and how much I would have valued having a like-minded female mentor early in my career”. Debarati said: "I’m always on the lookout for opportunities to learn, network, and contribute to forums or committees where I can share ideas for the benefit of the wider group. I was drawn to the passion and dedication of the WiR members”, and Rebecca added, "I see this role as an opportunity to give back by supporting communities of practice for women in resilience, both locally and globally."

Promoting engagement and support

Engaging and supporting members is a top priority for the new committee members, with each bringing innovative approaches to growing connections and strengthening the group for the future.

Danielle believes that continuing to establish and grow a peer support network so new and existing members can connect with others facing similar challenges is important. She said “I look forward to encouraging new members to share their own ideas, questions, and concerns to help create a comfortable open, inclusive, and diverse platform”. Rebecca favours a personal approach suggesting that “Reaching out with 1:1 email / video calls / in person will be key to welcoming and engaging new members. Support could be tailored around the person's needs and creatively identifying how we can deliver the level of support required by leveraging the wealth of knowledge in WiR.” Debarati shares a similar view further highlighting the potential for networking development, adding “I would like to focus on outreach and get many more professionals collaborating with us. My simple rule is, I network with three people, they further do it with three more and we extend our outreach.”

Leader Ratna Pawan and vice leader Krysta Broughton-Munford welcome the new committee members to the group. They said:

We welcome Debarati Rana, Danielle Ryan (Gonsalvez), and Rebecca Skinner to the WiR SIG. It is incredible to have three new talented members join the committee together. Each new member brings fresh and diverse perspectives, unique skills and their enthusiasm will undoubtedly contribute to our collective success. We are excited for them to join our existing and new initiatives aimed towards furthering the core goal of our SIG, which is to attract more women into the industry, and support and champion those working in the field to become leaders and advance in their careers.
