Empowering resilience in the manufacturing sector
The BCI recently held an interview with Jiri Bongaerts, a business continuity (BC) consultant with significant experience in the manufacturing industry, to discuss the ongoing threats and risks in the heavy manufacturing sector and how BC and resilience are applied in this industry.
Our conversation began by exploring some of the top threats for the sector, with climate change adaptions, cybersecurity risks, and geopolitical threats all having an impact. In an industry that requires significant power to operate, rising energy and material costs have also taken a toll.
However, he also identified another ongoing threat – a lack of staff for key roles. While the sector has identified this as a concern, Jiri adds that he has not seen many attempts to mitigate the impact of a staff shortage: “For me, [lack of talent] is one of the main risks, which will stay for a long time and it's not on the radar screen enough for the heavy manufacturing sector.”
