The BCI is pleased to announce that Glen Redstall FBCI has been re-elected to the BCI Board for another 3-year term and Lutfur Ali has been appointed as Non-Executive Director for Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion.

On Thursday 28th October voting closed for the BCI Board elections and Glen Redstall was elected for another term, on his re-election Glen commented ‘"I'm really pleased to have been re-elected to the BCI Board. My first term was significantly impacted by Covid with our focus moving from growth and development to survival. I'm optimistic that during this term we'll be able to grasp the opportunities that the pandemic has provided by growing the reach and influence of our Institute, growing our membership, and delivering more tangible benefits to members." On the appointment BCI Chair, Chris Horne FBCI noted "Glen has done a great job during his first term on the board and in his role as chair of the Finance, Audit, and Risk Committee. We are very pleased to be able to continue to benefit from Glen’s involvement and I look forward to the continuation of our work together."

The diversity and inclusion landscape is in the forefront of the issues facing professional bodies at all levels of their activity – be it in terms of member-representation, of ensuring that opportunities are equally shared across the gender spectrum and in terms of creating an environment for members and the wider profession that celebrates diversity, promotes equality and delivers inclusion. However enthusiastic the BCI has been to develop policies in this area it is clear to us that we need the guidance of someone who has professional expertise and experience that they can apply to help us. We are delighted that we have this important resource within the Board and welcome Lutfur Ali whose appointment was confirmed at the October board meeting and will take up his new role immediately following the AGM.

Lutfur has over 30 years’ experience delivering business improvements, growth and resilience particularly, through leading equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI), across a broad range of industries and organisations in the private, public and not for profit sectors.

He is currently a Policy Advisor to the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development. Prior to this Lutfur held a range of high-profile executive and advisory roles including Assistant Chief Executive to the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, Director of Diversity and Inclusion for the Tribal Group, Head of Equality and Diversity for the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority, Head of Policy, Equality and Diversity for the Department of Health and NHS, Advisor to the Zahid Mubarak Inquiry and, following 7/7 and 9-11, Advisor to the Prevent Task Force.

Lutfur is passionate about improving organisational capability, business improvement and enabling the creation of resilient inclusive working cultures. At Tower Hamlets, he led the overall transformation programme leading the organisation to re-shape its service delivery while achieving over 30% spending reductions and protecting services to the most vulnerable.

On being appointed as Non-Executive Director to the BCI Board Lutfur said:

“The Covid Pandemic has not only shocked the world of work and business into recognising the unprecedented and unpredictable scale of risks but has also exposed the deeply ingrained inequalities and structural barriers in society and organisations like never before. The work of the BCI - supporting to keep the worlds organisations on track no matter what - has never been more critical than it is now. The work of the BCI is inspiring. I am hugely honoured and privileged to be making my contribution towards supporting the BCI in its work to become more resilient, inclusive and diverse for now and the future.”

BCI Chair Chris Horne FBCI said on the appointment “Organizations and businesses all over the world are operating in an unprecedented and challenging environment. One that is unfortunately not always equal for everyone. Establishing this new board role is a very important step to evolve our practices and improve our posture in diversity and inclusion. As this is an important topic that needs to be constantly considered in our planning, decision making, and work. We are very excited to have Lutfur accept this new role on the board and look forward to the guidance and experience that we now have available in this important area of ongoing focus.”
