2001- today, European Business Continuity Manager
CitiFinancial is the niche sub-prime consumer relationship lending arm of Citigroup. Responsible for the preparation, testing and compliance of all business continuity planning (BCP) operations within the EMEA region. Main activities include the development of a regional BCP methodology, the establishment of a business continuity team across European operations, successful disaster recovery strategy development, implementation, testing, and compliance with US and UK FSA regulations.
Key Achievements:
- Developed and implemented the European business continuity planning methodology for CitiFinancial Europe to ensure compliance with Citigroup policy, UK and US regulations (FSA, Basel II, Sarbanes-Oxley).
- Implementing a standard crisis management methodology and management procedures for all countries.
- Managed the tendering and outsourcing of BCP strategy implementation for UK operations; centralised IT, distributed workarea office recovery.
-Managed the decentralisation of UK BCP plan maintenance through conversion to intranet planning software and training of 80 BCP plan owners.
- Oversight responsibility of EMEA BCP operations. Managed the completion of BCP annual lifecycle events for 10 EMEA central operations, each to achieve full ownership of plans and regulatory compliance within 12 months of program launch; from program kick-off, strategy definition, implementation and testing (UK, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Spain, Italy, Poland, Slovakia & Romania).
- Managed the UK and Republic of Ireland branch strategy definition and implementation process; oversight responsibility of 5 branch network BCP operations in the EMEA region.

Key projects included the Y2K contingency planning and compliance reporting and the launch of business continuity planning outsourcing program; the design and implementation of the Company health and safety policy; the management of facilities services planned and reactive maintenance activities.
Key Achievements:
- Project management of the preparation of year 2000 contingency plans for all European operations to comply with FSA requirements (then Spain, Sweden, UK, France).
- Maintained existing business continuity plans and managed the outsource of the strategy definition consultancy for 4 main distributed central operations centres for consumer and commercial finance businesses (then Cambridge, Reading, Manchester and Sunderland).
-Researched and project managed the update and implementation of the Company health and safety policy with the Company HSO to comply with HSA requirements at all UK and ROI sites. Managed the workplace risk assessments and training of all staff with line management responsibilities in both central and branch office locations to comply with government standards.
- Outsourced the competitive tendering of the sub100kw electricity supply for the UK branch network to The Energy Brokers, contributing to bottom line profits for both individual branches and central operations in just 10 months. Regular annual savings have continued for both sub and >100kw sites.
- Outsourced reactive branch maintenance and branch service desk function, ensured compliance with fire and building regulations, reduced reactive maintenance costs, increased measurable internal customer service levels which increased staff morale and productivity.
1997 - 1999, (Branch) Network Development Manager
Responsible for providing operations support and business development planning for new UK and ROI branch operations. My ongoing responsibilities included the management of back-office projects as requested by the business to support these operations. My responsibilities included working with branch operations management and property surveyors to ensure the successful opening of new branches, and achieving break-even within 18 months
Key Achievements:
- Developed and managed a branch opening methodology and procedure streamlining the planning, approval and opening process and reducing opportunity cost and management cost.
- Produced a 5 year branch opening plan for expansion in the Republic of Ireland.
- Managed the branch opening process with internal surveyors for branches in ROI and UK, all of which achieved profit within the 18 month target date.
- Developed a proposal for the investment in marketing segmentation and customer profiling tools to provide MIS for ongoing operational and strategic support; proposed a framework for a branch expansion strategy evaluation.
1995 - 1997, Logistics Analyst, Sony United Kingdom Limited: Thatcham, Newbury
Responsibilities included logistics projects analysis and co-ordination by investigating and planning logistics project proposals to increase the efficiency of the logistics operations for Sony Consumer Division. Key achievements included motivating the warehouse workforce to bring efficiency improvements forwards from traffic and picking offices in the warehouse, and in the design and proposition of a logistics costs budgeting and accounting model.
Key Achievements:
- Designed and implemented a logistics cost management system to allocate the actual cost of logistics within Sony product groups, spreading the cost of logistics according to logistics resource utilisation.
- Developed a proposal for a MIS and reporting tool to target cost savings and efficiencies for Sony consumer product groups and the logistics division.
- Additional responsibilities included providing planning support for the UK logistics division budget for the storage and distribution of goods based on the sales forecasts of Sony product groups.
INTERESTS
To stay fit and active I enjoy maintaining a general fitness regime including running and regular visits to the gym. I play competitive squash in the company IT Squash League which I established in 2003, and enjoy a general outdoor life including camping/trekking and the occasional game of golf. Other hobbies include literature, all aspects of gardening, music theory and practice, and restoring my home which is a Grade II listed building. I keep up to date with current affairs and global issues by reading online news sources daily and the Sunday Times newspaper at weekends.
