Business Continuity Manager
£35,000 - £45,000
London -Euston
About the Company/Division
Network Rail owns and maintains the UK’s rail infrastructure. A new role has been created in the operations security and continuity planning department that would look after business continuity and emergency planning across the network. This new role will report to the Head of Operations security and Continuity Planning and will be based at the company headquarters in London.
About the role
The responsibilities of this role involve delivering the implementation, co-ordination and maintenance of the Network Rail business continuity management arrangements. This includes managing the development and maintenance of effective business continuity plans in co-operation with a wide spectrum of internal and external stakeholders. As part of this, you’ll chair the Business Continuity Working Group. You’ll also lead a team of five people in developing and maintaining emergency plans. This team is responsible for writing and maintaining emergency plans, communicating them amongst operational staff and undertaking a variety of exercises to test the plans. They plan for potential emergencies on the railway – from a large train crash, to flooding on line and any other type of incident that involves passenger or freight trains. The potential emergencies can be as general as this, or address potential hazards at specific Network Rail sites. This requires extensive liaison with internal and external stakeholders.
We are looking for someone who has experience in business continuity planning and is seeking an exciting challenge in a national company. Knowledge of the railway is not essential – you may be working in a similar role in a Local Authority, a major company or the emergency services. Experience in applying the principles of BS 25999 is important, as is a recognised higher level educational qualification in a business continuity or emergency planning related subject. Experience of managing people in a business continuity and/or emergency planning function is also needed. Although the post is based in London, there will be some travelling involved, that the company will compensate for.
Additional details about the company and the role
• Network Rail is a national company, and therefore you’ll be looking at national, rather than local issues. You’ll be liaising with a large number of bodies.
• The opportunity is there to take up a new post and make a significant contribution to the business continuity planning of a major infrastructure company.
• There is a broad range of emergency planning issues – from large-scale potential disasters to national problems such as flooding. There are also site-specific hazards to plan for.
• Network Rail is a world class company and working for us is a significant career development move.
